More than 200,000 new cases of breast cancer are discovered in the U.S. each year. At Deaconess Hospital, we know the value of early detection and mammography is a tool we use to identify potential issues.
An x-ray of the breast, mammography is used to look for breast disease in both women and men. It is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure that is generally not painful. At Deaconess Hospital, we’re dedicated to providing you with the most proactive care possible. If you have questions about your test or the results, your doctor or nurse can answer all of your questions.
In addition to traditional, film mammography, Deaconess Hospital also offers digital mammography. Digital mammography uses computers and specially designed digital detectors to produce an image that can be displayed on a high-resolution computer monitor and can be transmitted and stored like any computer file. It offers a few benefits that traditional mammography does not, including the ability to manipulate images (zoom, adjust the contrast) and potentially reduce radiation exposure, as being able to adjust the image’s brightness and contrast reduces the need for retakes due to over or under exposure.
The Deaconess Breast Evaluation Center is an American College of Radiology accredited facility dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer.
