When it's time to welcome your new bundle of joy, trust Deaconess.

With beautiful private birthing suites, world class room service and comfortable sleeping accommodations for dad, women can expect more at Deaconess Hospital.

For the expectant mom-to-be, Deaconess offers family-focused and individualized birthing care. We offer newly remodeled, large and comfortable birthing suites complete with plenty of space for family and beautiful bathrooms with deep Jacuzzi tubs to soothe moms in early stages of labor (with physician consent, of course).

Making your childbirth experience special starts with making you feel as comfortable as possible. There are countless decisions to make, and at Deaconess, every one of those decisions is yours. You can choose one of the area's finest obstetricians or family practice physicians to deliver your baby, or if you prefer, you can have an experienced and attentive certified nurse midwife guide you through childbirth. You can also choose how you want to approach pain management. Whether your preference is for natural relaxation techniques or anesthesia, we'll support you.

At Deaconess, women can expect more. More pampering… more peace of mind… and more attention from our caring Labor and Delivery team. When your little one arrives, we'll be there to help you celebrate.

Babies are our business

The staff at the Deaconess Women's and Children's Center is dedicated to exceeding your expectations. Our goal is to provide a positive care experience for you and your baby. That means constantly looking for new and creative ways to better serve your needs.

At Deaconess, we believe:

  • The birth of your baby affects the entire family, so we encourage an atmosphere of family-centered care
  • Our birthing suites provide a home-like environment where you can labor, deliver and recover with your baby. We perform Cesarean births in a special delivery suite located in the birthing area
  • New moms can depend on our experienced staff for a variety of needs, including one-on-one consultations with our highly experienced lactation consultants

Advanced care for high-risk pregnancies

While most deliveries don't require specialized perinatal care, Deaconess has a highly specialized staff and facilities to handle life's unexpected turns. If you're experiencing a high-risk pregnancy with complications, be assured our Perinatal Services team will be there for you every step of the way.

We provide a unified, multidisciplinary approach to high risk obstetrics. Our program provides personal attention and promotes continuity of care. The same perinatal team remains with each mom-to-be throughout the pregnancy to help ensure that no development is overlooked. This increased attentiveness allows us to tailor the program to each patient's needs and to each referring obstetrician's requirements.

A referred patient may need only one visit to our program for a test or consultation, or in some cases, a full transfer of care can take place. Our perinatologists (physicians who specialize in high risk pregnancy) act as coordinators of care, involving additional specialists in the patient's care if necessary – from the obstetrician to the neonatologist to the pediatric surgeon.

We take a flexible, consultative approach to high-risk care, updating the referring physician in each stage of care by telephone and/or fax. Referring physicians are also provided with direct, 24-hour access to a perinatologist via telephone and pager to ensure timely communication.

Full service, advanced facilities for both mother and baby are located under the same roof, on the same floor, saving precious time in situations where every moment is critical.

Physician referrals can be directed to Perinatal Services at (509) 458-6080. Our staff would be happy to tell you about our list of treatment specialties and services.

Offering the highest level of neonatal intensive care

At Deaconess, the only thing more important than making your experience unique and wonderful is making sure it's safe. Your health and the health of your baby come first. You can rest easy knowing that if something out of the ordinary occurs, Deaconess has the highest level of neonatal intensive care available 24-hours-a-day.

Babies born prematurely or with serious health problems are in highly capable hands. Our neonatal critical care teams are as compassionate as they are skilled.

Deaconess operates one of the premiere Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in the state:

  • Our Level III 38-bed facility is staffed around the clock with highly trained clinical staff specializing in neonatal care and utilizing the most current best practices for neonates
  • Neonatologists (physicians who specialize in the care of newborns) and Perinatologists (physicians who specialize in high-risk pregnancies) are available 24-hours-a-day
  • NICU care is given with a focus on optimal development for the newborn, which creates a supportive, low-stimulant atmosphere where premature babies thrive
