At Deaconess Hospital, women can expect more.  More pampering… more peace of mind… and more caring from our experienced nurses and physicians.  With a wide-range of services for women, you’ll find the high quality healthcare you’re looking for right here at Deaconess.

Are your bones strong and healthy?

Our volunteer services department offers free osteoporosis screening on select days each week.  This simple screening takes just a few minutes and is performed on your bare heel.  When the screening is complete, you’ll receive a report detailing your results that you can share with your doctor.

Facts about Osteoporosis

People with osteoporosis have weak, brittle, porous bones and they are prone to hip and spine fractures that can cause disability and pain. While it’s most commonly seen in women and those over the age of 50, younger people can also develop the disease.

Your risk for Osteoporosis increases for:

  • Women (because of bone structure)
  • Thin, small-boned people
  • Those with a family history of osteoporosis
  • Certain ethnic groups, including white and Asian women
  • Aging people
  • Regular smokers

You can reduce your risk by:

  • Receiving early diagnosis
  • Avoiding alcohol
  • Not smoking
  • Walking or exercising regularly
  • Getting adequate calcium and Vitamin D
  • Taking prescribed medications
