We know that breastfeeding is an important part of the post-birth bonding experience with your new baby. We also know that for most new-moms, it's not as easy as it looks. Our dedicated nurses will reinforce the amazing decision you are making to feed your baby and equip you with the techniques to do it well. We give you "homework" before baby arrives, teach you the basics of breast anatomy, practice the five key steps to a good latch and help you recognize hunger cues. We will discuss pumping and storing breast-milk and how to prepare for the transition back to work (or breaks out of the house)! We'll also talk through the possible complications and difficulties for new breastfeeding moms, when to introduce solid foods and the use of pacifiers. This class includes a resource guide to breastfeeding and further information about the lactation consultants available at Deaconess Hospital.
This class is taught by Zibby Merritt and Paula Judah. If you have any questions, please email email@example.com. This class will be located in the Perinatal Center on the 2nd floor near the Mother Baby Unit.

Preparing to Give Meaningful Birth is devoted to learning the nuances of
the journey through labor and delivery. We will introduce natural
breathing exercises and relaxation techniques for you to practice at
home. Birth-balls and practice prenatal exercises will be utilized to
prepare both your body and mind for birth. We will also take time for
small guided imagery segments to show the benefits of relaxation in
labor and view short birth-stories. Our nurses walk you through the
logistics of labor and how your body will prepare to bring your baby
into the world. You will learn how to best time your arrival at
Deaconess as we discuss both natural and medicated births. We discuss
possible medical interventions, such as IV pain medications, an epidural
and inductions. The emphasis of this class is to introduce your
birthing options, answer any questions you may have and help you plan
the birth that is right for you and your partner. A detailed tour of our
Labor and Delivery Unit is also provided with this class.
