The intensive care unit (ICU) at Deaconess Hospital provides continuous monitoring and treatment of critically ill patients. Because patients in the ICU require specialized care, visitors should understand that their visit might be interrupted or cut short based on the needs of the patient and our doctors.
At Deaconess Hospital, we understand that family is an important part of the healing process and our policies are designed to help reduce your anxiety, answer your questions and provide ongoing reassurance and guidance. Due to the size of the rooms and courtesy to our other patients, only two family members may visit at one time. At times, visitation may be interrupted for patient care but will resume as soon as possible.
The ICU is closed to visitation from:
To assure patient confidentiality, we ask that your family identify one spokesperson to receive and communicate information. The role of this person will be to contact all the friends and relatives who need to be reached each day to update them on the patient's condition. We recommend that the spokesperson not be a primary relation, i.e. the patient’s spouse, parent or significant other. Having a spokesperson eliminates frequent calls to the ICU, which can pull the nurse away from the patient's bedside.
